IGEEM 2014 Speaker Biographies

Jean Houston, Ph.D. - Keynote Speaker

Jean HoustonJean HoustonOne of the highlights of the first IGEEM was Jean Houston's spellbinding keynote address that closed the Convention. Upon hearing it, a stunning 50 more people signed up on-the-spot for her post conference class. This is unheard of. Most people by that point in the conference have their return plane reservations or other plans firmly in place.

Before Donna and I joined our careers as well as our lives, there was little overlap amongst our intellectual heros, with one exception: Jean Houston. Jean is high up among the most articulate, visionary, heartful, and effective people on the planet. We have sought ways of collaborating with her over the years and, in the process, have become dear friends with her. We were overjoyed this week to learn that she has agreed to return to provide another keynote and post conference class at the September 2014 IGEEM in San Diego.

In figuring out how to give you a taste of what to expect, we decided to link you to a 12-minute segment of a 1998 Jean Houston interview by Jeffrey Mishlove. Jean's IGEEM 2014 talk will occur 16 years after that interview. These two points in time are compelling because in 1998, Jean predicted what would unfold in the culture: "All systems are in transition. Everything is breaking down: government, politics, religion, relationships." While speaking of the inevitable rise of fundamentalism, she also pointed to possibilities that are still in our reach today: "We have access to all of the knowledge that has accumulated in all of the cultures throughout the history of humanity and sufficient crisis and complexity and radical need to make use of this knowledge!"

In these 16 years, Jean has been actively working with the United Nations and dozens of world leaders to move through the upheaval in a way that grabs the opportunity for planetary evolution. At IGEEM, she will tell us what she has learned and what she thinks now.

Jack Canfield - Keynote Speaker

We first met Jack at a conference in Liverpool in 2005 when he and Donna were two of the keynote speakers. David's "Introduction to Energy Psychology" DVD was available at the conference bookstore, and Jack had bought and watched it the evening before his talk. He had already been experimenting with acupoint tapping, and he spent a couple of minutes during his keynote speaking about the DVD and how skillfully the "therapist" had helped the client in one of the demonstration sessions. This led to a wonderful meeting among the three of us, a shared dinner the evening after his talk, and a beautiful connection.

We are thrilled beyond thrilled that Jack has agreed to appear at our 3rd International Gathering of Eden Energy Medicine (IGEEM) Convention in San Diego next September! You probably know of Jack as the co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul book series, which has sold more than half a billion (yes, billion) copies in 47 languages. Jack has also appeared on Oprah, The Montel Williams Show, Larry King Live, Today, and more than a thousand other programs. Two PBS specials were devoted exclusively to his work.

Mark Tuesday, September 16, 2014, for Jack's Pre-Conference Workshop on Principles of Success for Energy Healing Practitioners

What you may not know is that Jack is among the most successful consultant/coaches on the planet for helping people achieve their personal and professional goals. He has helped hundreds of thousands of people on six continents become millionaires, business leaders, best-selling authors, successful entrepreneurs, and world-class athletes while at the same time creating balanced, fulfilling, and healthy lives. He has summarized the strategies that have made him so effective in his best-selling book The Success Principles. Jack will bring these principles of success to our EEM community.

Jack is a high-powered, charismatic motivational speaker whom we found to be an absolutely beautiful human being with a gorgeous spirit and deep appreciation of the spiritual dimensions of life.

Does he also appreciate an energy perspective? Eight years after watching David's program on Energy Psychology, Jack wrote Tapping into Ultimate Success—based on his work using acupoint tapping to help people around the world be more effective.

Jack will bring the principles of success he has developed over the past three decades to our energy healing community during his keynote and in a six-hour pre-conference class on Tuesday, September 16. So plan to come to San Diego a day early to start your IGEEM experience with a day of inspiration that will be transformational.

Seane Corn - Keynote Speaker

Seane CornSeane CornDonna and David were stunned as they sat in on Seane Corn's keynote at the Sounds True Wake Up Festival in Boulder last summer. They both left the talk feeling, "We have to get her for IGEEM." Seane is an internationally celebrated yoga teacher and an impassioned activist, embodying unique self-expression and an inspired style of teaching incorporating both the physical and mystical aspects of the practice of yoga.

Seane approaches life with a fierce commitment to making spirituality accessible and inspiring. In her words, "Through the integration of body and breath, movement and meditative awareness, we are made aware of the interdependency of all things, to the knowing that we are all here to learn about love, and that God -- truth and love -- is in all experiences. Each of our moments, even if they break our hearts, are ultimately blessed if they can awaken us to our highest Self."

The feature that totally caught our imaginations from Seane's presentation was the way she has used her international platform within the yoga and wellness communities to create her "Off the Mat, Into the World" program. Not content to just be an international yoga celebrity, her social change programs have more than 50,000 supporters and 1,300 trained yogi-activists engaged in 60 ongoing service projects, along with 75 local community action groups. Program titles such as Yoga Gangsters and Yoga of 12-Step Recovery give you an idea of the range of their work.

Particularly striking to Donna and David was the way that Seane teamed with Arianna Huffington of The Huffington Post to create dialogues in the 2008 and 2012 Democratic and Republic national conventions between those in the political sphere and those in the yoga, health, and well-being disciplines to share the message of self-care, sustainability, and how peace of mind can lead to positive change in our country's decision-making process.

We asked Seane if she would talk to the EEM community with a kind of "Off the Table and Into the World" theme, and she graciously accepted. So along with Jean Houston and Jack Canfield, Seane is the third of our keynote speakers to agree to grace IGEEM with their message and presence!

Kulreet Chaudhary, M.D. - Keynote Speaker

Kulreet ChaudharyKulreet Chaudhary

Donna was peacefully working on our Energies of Love book last October when she received an urgent message: "Turn on Dr. Oz right now!" She did, and wow! A vibrant young woman was being featured who happens to be the Director of Neurology for Wellspring Health at Scripps Memorial Hospital. But what she was doing on The Dr. Oz Show was demonstrating how she works with the chakra system when treating her patients! That was a lot to take in.

One of the great things about being the ones who select the keynote speakers for IGEEM is that we (Donna and David) are always on the lookout for GREAT talents who are not well-known to our community. Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary is going to be a gem. When we finally reached her by phone, David listened as Donna and Dr. Chaudhary talked and laughed ... and talked and laughed ... and talked and laughed. It was a thrilling first meeting.

Dr. Chaudhary is known for developing a powerful system for managing chronic neurological disorders. Having participated in more than 20 clinical research studies in the areas of multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, ALS, and diabetic peripheral neuropathy, her research includes groundbreaking work in stem cell therapies for diabetic peripheral neuropathy and new medications for the treatment of ALS. Her internship in internal medicine was at UCLA, and she completed a neurology fellowship at UCSD.

Meanwhile, having been born in India, she is thoroughly at home with understanding the body as an energy system. She does indeed work actively with the chakras and is proficient in ayurvedic medicine -- making changes in diet, behavior, and stress management part of the treatment, right along with standard allopathic approaches to neurological conditions. She is also a spokesperson among physicians for bringing national awareness to the need for a paradigm shift in medicine.

We are proud that she has agreed to deliver a keynote address and a post-conference workshop at IGEEM 2014 in San Diego, September 17–21.

Larry Dossey, M.D. - Keynote Speaker

Larry DosseyLarry Dossey, M.D.This distinguished Texas physician, deeply rooted in the scientific world, has become an internationally influential advocate of the role of the mind in health and the role of spirituality in health care. Bringing the experience of a practicing internist and the soul of a poet to the discourse, Dr. Larry Dossey offers panoramic insight into the nature and the future of medicine.

The author of nine books and numerous articles, Dr. Dossey is the former executive editor of the peer-reviewed journal Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, the most widely subscribed-to journal in its field. The primary quality of all of Dr. Dossey's work is scientific legitimacy, with an insistent focus on "what the data show." As a result, his colleagues in medical schools and hospitals all over the country trust him, honor his message, and continually invite him to share his insights with them.

Dr. Dossey has lectured all over the world, including major medical schools and hospitals in the United States: Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, the universities of Pennsylvania, California, Washington, Texas, Florida, Minnesota, and the Mayo Clinic. The impact of his work has been remarkable.

Before his book Healing Words was published in 1993, only three U.S. medical schools had courses devoted to exploring the role of religious practice and prayer in health. Currently, nearly 80 medical schools have instituted such courses, many of which utilize Dr. Dossey's works as textbooks.

In his 1989 book, Recovering the Soul, he introduced the concept of "nonlocal mind" -- mind unconfined to the brain and body, mind spread infinitely throughout space and time. Since then, "nonlocal mind" has been adopted by many leading scientists as an emerging image of consciousness. Dr. Dossey's ever-deepening explication of nonlocal mind provides a legitimate foundation for the merging of spirit and medicine. The ramifications of such a union are radical and call for no less than the reinvention of medicine.
