Donna Eden, a pioneer in the emerging field of
energy medicine, "energy is the foundation of physical and emotional health."
Eden's statement is supported by a growing body of scientific research that has proven the
existence of a bioenergy field, or "aura," that surrounds all living beings, the
integrity of which changes in direct response to changes in thoughts, emotions, and moods.
Moreover, many researchers now maintain that the initial, subtle seeds of both physical
and emotional illness first occur in a person's "energy body" long before they
manifest more concretely in the visible world. Conversely, research also shows that
external factors such as foods, alcohol, drugs, radiation from television and computer
screens, and other forms of electromagnetic radiation can damage this subtle, protective
field, eventually resulting in a wide range of disease conditions.
In Energy Medicine, Eden integrates this recent scientific research with centuries-old
knowledge culled from such healing traditions as acupuncture and yoga, to describe what
the energy body is and how it can be accessed to achieve and maintain optimal health. In
addition, she includes pertinent laboratory and clinical research about energy medicine
that makes it clear why Western medicine is finally being compelled to accept energy
medicine as a viable discipline that addresses one of the central aspects of health and
healing. Assisted by her husband, David Feinstein, formerly of John Hopkins University
School of Medicine, Eden shares the story of her own healing journey which began at birth
when she was diagnosed with a heart murmur, and included bouts of tuberculosis, severe
food allergies, hay fever, hypoglycemia, severe PMS, multiple sclerosis, a heart attack, a
serious asthma condition, and a breast tumor, all by the age of 34. Eden relates her
medical history and her road to recovery to illustrate that all of us innately possess the
key to our own healing, and that the energy body is a means by which we can access it.
Divided into three parts, Energy Medicine includes pertinent research in support of
Eden's work, an overview of subtle energy systems from healing traditions worldwide, and
case histories that clearly, and often dramatically, illustrate how healing can occur once
energetic blockages are released to allow subtle energies to flow freely throughout the
body. From the onset, though, Eden is clear that the book's primary purpose is to guide
readers to actively participate 'in their own healing process by relying on their own
insights and intuitions while discovering how they, too, can work with their energy body
to treat common problems such as fatigue, headache, back pain, and stress.
In Part One, Eden defines what she terms "the language of the body's
energies." She provides techniques for identifying the various subtle energies within
and around us. She also teaches readers how to assess their own "energy
signature" and unscramble and enhance their healing energies by practicing the
"Daily Energy Routine." Techniques are also provided for reprogramming how the
body reacts to stress.
Part Two details the eight major energy systems that comprise Eden's work,
including the acupuncture meridian system, chakras, and the human aura. She also reveals
the multicultural history of each of the eight systems, showing how they have informed
non-conventional healing systems far before the dawn of allopathic medicine. While
acknowledging that these are not the only systems of energy in the human body, Eden
maintains that greater physical and emotional health can be achieved by working with them
to keep their energies flowing freely. Easy-to-follow illustrations and step-by-step
instructions make it easy for the reader to begin to access each system and learn how to
keep them in balance.
In Part Three, Eden provides the information most readers will have the greatest
interest in, namely how to use energy medicine to treat illness, relieve pain, cope with
electromagnetic pollution, and achieve optimal health. Among the techniques she shares are
exercises for stopping the onset of illness as soon as it begins, stimulating immune
function, relieving headaches, releasing stress, improving memory, enhancing digestion,
and relieving arthritis, and neck, shoulder and low back pain. A variety of energetic
mental/emotional techniques are included as well, guiding the reader to achieve greater
levels of joy and peacefulness, and to effectively cope with feelings of fear,
nervousness, and despair. Guidance is also provided for readers interested in using subtle
energies to tap into higher levels of spiritual guidance and expanded levels of
consciousness.
There are a variety of books about energy medicine on the market, and doubtless more will
follow as energy medicine becomes more widely accepted in our culture. Few authors,
however, have written about the subject in a way that empowers readers to be able to
directly experience the beneficial effects of energy medicine for themselves. With Energy
Medicine, Eden joins Dolores Krieger and Barbara Brennan as one of the few authors who
have done so. With over a hundred techniques supported by the latest scientific research
and illustrative case histories, Energy Medicine breaks new ground in empowering readers
to take charge of their own health. |
